Principals

Rob Macdonald

After a Chemical Engineering degree, Rob worked for 20 years in the oil and gas industry, in both production and service, including major projects in China and Russia. His positions progressed from Project Engineer and Project Manager, Chief Engineer, Manager of Engineering, Managing Director to Board Director and Chairman.

Those experiences lead to an understanding that people, not technical solutions, have the greatest impact in organizations. He joined Western Leadership Centre Inc. to invest in that belief, working with people in technical and operations areas to help them grow leadership skills. For over 14 years, Rob has consulted, facilitated, trained and coached. As a result, he is one of the few professional engineers in Canada that has the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Katharine Bondy

After an Education degree, Katharine began her career with an international retail firm comprised of 200 western Canadian outlets. She progressed from Store Manager to Training Manager and Human Resources Manager for western Canada. She was involved in all levels and departments in the organization, including training, recruitment, performance management, benefits administration, succession planning and organizational development.

With an ownership change and a passion “to improve the world of work,” Katharine left to start Western Leadership Centre Inc. She has designed and delivered programs to client groups. She has facilitated corporate review and strategy development in for-profit and non-profit organizations. Katharine has conducted thousands of individual and corporate assessments to assist leaders to form teams, hire, solve performance problems and build technical and leadership capacity. She holds the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Activities and accomplishments:
  • The Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) awarded Western Leadership Centre Inc. an Award of Merit for Supercharging Careers at EBA
  • The Calgary Herald, Globe and Mail, Business Edge, CBC Radio and the PEGG (APEGGA newsletter) have interviewed or written articles about Western Leadership Centre
  • We have made numerous presentations to non-profit and industry associations
  • We’ve received International Dealer of the Year awards and an International Business Growth award from 360 Solutions LLC
We’ve developed a number of new initiatives over the past few years:
  • Performance management process
  • Method for ensuring learning transfer from classroom to worksite
  • Process for measuring return on investment (ROI) for training and HR activities
Giving back to the community:
  • We sponsor several organizations with financial contributions
  • We volunteer our time and expertise to assist non-profit organizations, to reduce homelessness, addictions and poverty
